: The title character is impressed into the Royal British Navy, off the tail end of a cruise in the merchant marines. On the HMS Bellipotent, he falls in favorably with the crew, but after a late night encounter with another sailor forcibly enlisted, he is suspected of conspiring to mutiny by the Master of Arms, Claggart. When brought before the captain, he inadvertantly kills Claggart. Hilarity, suffice it to say, does not ensue.
