The book examines the complex relationship between fiction and philosophy with a view of constructing a method of philosophical analysis and interpretation of narrative literature. The formal-structural approach is based on the model of narrative proposed by Patrick O'Neill, and attempts to establish the means of expression available on the narraytive levels of the implied author, the narrator and characters.
