The plot of the story is nonlinear and the narrative is often jumpy. The narrative seems to be mimicking the trauma that Melinda had faced.  To enhance the effect of Melinda&'s trauma, the author uses inter-textual symbolism in the narrative. Tale imagery has also been used highly effectively.  "e;Speak"e; has won several prestigious literary awards.
