EBOOK Sounds of the Silents in Britain
Opis
Early cinemas were noisy places with pianos, organs, ensembles of all varieties and sometimes full orchestras accompanied films. The histories about this era have until now focused exclusively on exhibition practices in the United States, which provides only a very narrow glimpse into the silent film era. Britain, a key cultural player in the entertainment world both at the time and now, has a different history altogether of musical cultures and film production in a very different social and cultural setting which fills out the picture. This book, the first about the sound of silent music outside of North American practice, will bring these differences under the spotlight.
