Museums in Poland. Guidebook

"This book is addressed both to persons who intend to visit museums individually and to organisers of guided tours.
The presented publication has been devised upon the basis of surveys prepared by the Department of Museums at the Historical Monuments Documentation Centre, in which museum staff characterised their institutions and collections. The obtained data was then supplemented by means of information found in books and periodicals, verified and rendered precise so as to provide the readers with the possibly fullest and current information. The authors have also tried to take into consideration all the museums in Poland, with the single reservation that museums, similarly to other fields of life, are subjected to constant transformations-new institutions come into being, old ones are reorganised or outright liquidated, and addresses, telephone numbers and exhibitions change; it is possible, therefore, that in a number of instances pertinent information had not reached the publishers prior to printing the book. This holds especially true in those cases when w certain museums, fortunately scarce, reacted rather reluctance to requests for data that would bring the survey up to date, or even outright ignored our appeal. We would like to express our gratitude, therefore, to all those museums which offered exhaustive replies to our questions, and especially those which made available free-of-charge photographs".- From the Editors
