Kathy O`Malley lives in a back-to-back house in a suburb of Birmingham. Although life has not been easy - with her husband Barry out of work, and two small children to bring up - she knows she can always count on her family nearby for support. But when war finally breaks out in Europe, Barry and three of Kathy`s brothers enlist, leaving the rest of them to cope as best they can.
